What are integrated graphics?
In integrated graphics, the graphics card is embedded on the same die as the processor. This means it also shares the system installed memory. Depending on the tasks being carried out, the GPU can access between 1 to 5 percent of the available memory.
The shared die and combined workload mean less heat output and power consumption. If the laptop has both the integrated and discrete GPUs, it can switch to the integrated chip when no demanding tasks are being performed.
AMD Radeon R5 graphics

The performance of the Bristol Ridge integrated R5 GPU depends on the memory type used and the configured TDP of the model used. A 15-watt Ultra Low Voltage APU paired with dual channel RAM should be at par with an R7 M260 or a discrete GeForce 920M.
Intel Integrated graphics
Most laptops powered by an Intel processor are powered by either the Intel HD Graphics or Intel Iris GPU. HD graphics are the weaker ones, they are not made for performing graphics-intensive tasks such as AutoCAD or even AAA titles such as Rise of the Tomb Raider or Doom. However, they can handle streaming and games such as Overwatch.
The Iris iGPUs marketed as Iris (last gen), Iris Pro (last gen) or the current Iris Plus are significantly powerful than the Intel HD graphics. They are not powerful than discrete chips but they have small amount of onboard memory to speed them up.
Benchmarks from the Notebookcheck show that the Intel Iris Plus graphics are faster than the Bristol Ridge Radeon R5. In GTA V, the R5 averaged at 38 fps in low settings at 768p while the Iris Plus pumped out 56.5 fps. In medium settings, the R5 provided 35 fps compared to the Iris 50 fps.
Both the Intel graphics and AMD Radeon R5 performance depends on the model’s TDP and the type of memory installed on the system. Faster dual channel RAM can increase the performance of the graphics card compared to single channel memory.
