Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti vs GTX 1070 Comparison Review

In this GTX 1050 Ti vs GTX 1070 article, we compare these two GPU to see how they perform against each other and help you choose the best GPU for you. Both are based on Nvidia’s Pascal generation, and they were released in 2016.

Read on to find out if there is a significant performance difference and if the difference warrants an upgrade.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti

The GTX 1050 Ti is a low tier GPU for desktops that was released by Nvidia in October 2016 to compete against AMD’s affordable gaming graphics cards. It is manufactured in the 14 nm process using the Pascal architecture. It is based on the GP107-400 chip, same as the GTX 1050.

The GP 107-400 which the GTX 1050 Ti runs on has 6 streams activated, the GPU has 768 shader units, 32 render outputs, and 48 texture mapping units. The base core speed of the GTX 1050 Ti is 1290 MHz and goes up to 1392 MHz when the boost is triggered.

The GPU has a 4 GB GDDR5 frame buffer which is accessed through a 128-bit memory interface. The memory runs at a speed of 7000 MHz and has a bandwidth of 112 GB/s. the card supports DirectX 12.0 (12_1) and OpenGL 4.6 APIs.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070

The GTX 1070 is a high-end graphics card for desktops that was released by Nvidia in June 2016. It is the fourth fastest GPU based on the Pascal architecture after the GTX 1080 Ti. Moreover, 1080 and the GTX 1070 Ti. It was the second GPU to feature the 16 nm Pascal process after the 1080.

The graphics card is based on the first generation Pascal GP104 chip which has 15 streams activated. It is equipped with 1920 shader processing units (more than twice the 1050 Ti). Additionally, 64 render output units and 120 texture mapping units. The base core speed is 1506 MHz which can be bumped up to 1683 MHz in boost mode.

The card features 8 GB GDDR5 memory (4 GB more than the 1050 Ti) which operates at 8 GB/s through a 256-bit memory interface. The GPU has a 256 GB/s total memory bandwidth. This GPU is rated at 150 Watt TDP and requires at least a 500 watt PSU.  The GPU supports DirectX 12.0 (12_1) and OpenGL 4.5 APIs.

Benchmarks comparison

The benchmark results of our GTX 1050 Ti vs GTX 1070 comparison show that the 1070 provides almost twice the performance of the 1050 Ti. In the synthetic benchmarks by Technical city, the 1070 performs 109% better than the 1050 Ti in the 3DMark Cloud Gate GPU test.

Looking at the 3DMark Fire Strike Score. The 1070 provides a 122.6% higher performance than the GTX 1050 Ti and 88.7% better in the Passmark benchmark test.

In the gaming benchmarks carried out at maximum settings at 1080p. The 1070 averages at 120 fps in Fortnite against 76 fps. In GTA V, the 1070 provides 79 fps compared to the 43 fps by the 1050 Ti. The 1070 also averages at 199 fps vs 120 fps in CS GO, 80 fps vs 44 fps in PUBG. Moreover, 81 fps vs 39 fps in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
