Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050
The GTX 1050 is a low tier gaming graphics card for desktops that was released in October 2016 by Nvidia. It utilizes the Pascal architecture that aims to provide twice the performance of the older Maxwell architecture. It is built on the GP107 chip as its 1050 Ti counterpart and is manufactured in the 14 nm process.
The GTX 1050 is equipped with 640 CUDA cores, and it runs at a base frequency of 1290 MHz and 1392 MHz when boosted. It also has 2 GB GDDR5 memory running at 7008 MHz memory speed using a 128-bit interface. The resulting bandwidth is 112 GB/s.
The GTX 1050 is rated at 75 Watt TDP and for its power supply, a 300 Watt PSU is recommended. It uses a PCle 3.0×16 bus interface to connect to the motherboard.
AMD Radeon RX 460
The RX 460 is a low tier desktop gaming GPU released by AMD in August 2016. It is based on the GCN 4.0 architecture. It is manufactured in the finer 14 nm process using the Polaris 11 (Baffin) chip. The GPU uses 14 out of 16 compute units. It comprises of 56 texture mapping units, 16 render output units and 1 MB L2 Cache.
The RX 460 is stocked with 896 shader units, which is 256 more than the other GPU used in this GTX 1050 vs RX 460. It has a core clock speed of 100 MHz and 1200 MHz when boosted. The GPU has a maximum of 4 GB GDDR5 memory type clocked at a speed of 7000 MHz through a 128-bit interface. The GPU has a total memory bandwidth of 112 GB/s.
Benchmarks result comparison
According to the benchmarks, the GTX 1050 is slightly better than the RX 460. In the synthetic benchmarks carried out by TechnicalCity, the GTX 1050 performs 17% better than the RX 460 in 3DMark Cloud Gate GPU, 18.5% better in the 3DMark Fire Strike score and 19.2% in the 3DMark Fire Strike Graphics.
The GTX 1050 had 26% faster peak multi-rendering in the MRender benchmark and 23% faster NBody calculation in the Gravity test than the RX 460. The 1050 scored 7.9% higher points in the PassMark benchmark.
In the gaming benchmarks, the RX 460 had slightly higher fps in CS GO with 117 vs 115 fps, in Fortnite, the 1050 averaged at 70 fps while the RX provided 48 fps. In GTA V, the 460 provided 41 fps while the 1050 provided 38 fps. The 1050 had higher fps in League of Legends with 131 fps vs 115 fps and in Overwatch with 63 fps vs 115 fps.
The GTX 1050 is marginally better than the Radeon RX 460. It has better synthetic benchmarks scores than the RX 460 and better gaming performance.
