Fortnite has taken over the gaming world by storm, and with the season 8 out now, it may only be the start. This game brings a colorful mix of fun and violence into the battle royale genre, by taking a lighter, cartoony and almost comical approach, unlike its PUBG counterpart.

Fortnite system requirements

If you are one of those who were late to the party and you are only just starting out, you may be interested in knowing what the minimum and recommended requirements are or how the GeForce GTX 1060 performs in the game.

But good news, Fortnite is not a graphically taxing game and at low settings, it can run on almost any system built in the past 5 years. The game is even playable on mobile devices which are much slower than the aging desktops.

The minimum requirements for Fortnite are an Intel HD 4000 integrated GPU, a 2.4 GHz Core i3 CPU and 4 GB RAM. The recommended system requirements are higher, they include a Core i5  CPU running at 2.8 GHz, 8 GB RAM, 2 GB VRAM and a GTX 660 GPU or Radeon 7870 GPU or equivalent. The Nvidia GTX 1060 for Fortnite gameplay

As you can see from the minimum and recommended system requirements, the GTX 1060 is very powerful and should be able to provide smooth gameplay in high setting at resolutions of up to 1440p with 60+ fps. This is mainly due to the cartoony artwork that prioritizes style over intense rendering.

The GTX 1060 GPU features 1280 shader units and runs at a base frequency of 1506 MHz and 1708 MHz boost. Its standard 6 GB memory configuration is more than the recommended 2 GB VRAM for Fortnite. It uses a 192-bit interface and has a total bandwidth of 192 GB/s.

Fortnite graphics settings

Fortnite has a limited number of settings that can be tweaked to increase the fps and smoothness of the gameplay, such as framerate limit, 3D resolution or scalability and motion blur. Changing the presets also increases the performance as noted by the PCgamer.

Depending on your GPU, going from epic preset to high increases the performance by at least 40%, dropping to medium can provide 140% boost while dropping directly to low can increase the speed more than twice. However, this is not necessary when using the GTX 1060 as it provides playable fps at the highest settings.
