In this GTX 1060 vs 1070 Ti guide, we compare the third fastest card in the Nvidia’s GTX 10 series against the GTX 1060. From a marketing perspective, the GTX 1070 Ti was released as a response to the AMD Vega 56, because the Vega 56 outperformed the GTX 1070.
With the 1050 Ti, Nvidia was able to secure its market share. From the Nvidia GTX naming system, you can already conclude that the 1070 Ti is a superior card to the GTX 1060, but how do they compare? Which one should you get? Read on to find out!
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060
The GTX 1060 is a mid-range gaming GPU from the graphics cards giant, Nvidia. It exists in two variants. The 6 GB and the 3 GB variant. The 3 GB version has 128 fewer shader units but is clocked higher. The GTX 1060 is built on the GP106 chip using the Pascal architecture. It is manufactured in 16 nm FinFET process technology at TSMC.
The GTX 1060 features 1280 shaders and runs at a base frequency of 1506 MHz and at 1708 MHz when boosted. It has a maximum of 6 GB GDDR5 RAM with a speed of 8000 MHz using the 192-bit bus width, the resulting bandwidth is 192 GB/s. its power consumption is rated at 120 Watt TDP. The GTX 1060 supports DirectX 12_1 and OpenGL 4.5 APIs.
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 Ti
The GTX 1070 Ti is the third fastest GPU in the Nvidia’s Pascal based line up, after the GTX 1080 Ti, and the GTX 1080. The card was released in November 2017, being a Ti card, its performance should be between the high-end GTX 1080 and the GTX 1070. It is based on the Pascal architecture and uses a smaller GP104 chip manufactured in the 16 nm FinFET process.
The GPU features 2432 shader processing units and runs at a core clock speed of 1607 MHz which can be boosted up to 1683 MHz. It has an 8 GB GDDR5 maximum RAM connected using a 256-bit interface.
The memory speed is at 8000 MHz, and the resulting bandwidth is 256.3 GB/s. It features 1x DVI, 1x HDMI, and 3X DisplayPort video connectors. The 1070 Ti consumes more power than the GTX 1060 and Nvidia rates it at 180 Watt TDP.
The GTX 1060 vs 1070 Ti benchmarks result show that the 1070 Ti is a more powerful graphics card. In the non-gaming benchmarks, the GTX 1070 Ti has a huge 82% better texture detail than the GTX 1060 in the Parallax benchmark. The 1070 Ti also has 38% much faster multi-rendering in the MRender benchmark. Additionally, 79% faster NBody calculation in the Gravity benchmark than the GTX 1060.
The 1070 Ti also takes the lead in gaming benchmarks. At maximum settings in 1080p, the GTX 1070 Ti averages at 101 fps in the Apex Legends while the 1060 averages at 76 fps. It provides 129 fps in Fortnite against 101 fps. The 1070 Ti averages at 89 fps in PUBG against the 1060s 68 fps. The Ti provides 206 fps in CS GO while its counterpart averages at 160 fps.
Both cards provide pretty great performance in most titles in high settings at 1080p; however, if you want to play at 1440p and above the GTX 1070 Ti would be a better choice. If you are gaming at 1080p there would be no reason to upgrade to the 1070 Ti.
The 1060 consumes much less power than the 1070 Ti and produces less heat. Hope our GTX 1060 vs 1070 Ti was useful, let us know if you have any question.
