GTX 1070 vs GTX 1660 Ti Comparison Review

In this GTX 1070 vs GTX 1660 Ti we will compare these two graphic cards by Nvidia side by side and see what is good and bad about these two.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 is a high-end graphics card. It is the second graphics card to feature the 16nm Pascal architecture next to the 1080. As a result of small sizing the cards, it made the card energy efficient than the predecessors. It was released in the 2nd quarter of 2016 and was superseded by the RTX 2070.

While the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti is a mid-range and a mid-priced graphics card for gamers. It replaced the old GTX 1060 6GB. Based on the Turing architecture and was released on the 1st quarter of 2019. This is a dual slot graphics card and a dual fan cooling. It has the 12nm process smaller than the 16nm of the Pascal architecture.,

The GTX series does not support real time tracing like the RTX series. But it will in the future with software updates.

The GTX 1070 is codenamed P104-200-A1, it is the first-generation Pascal GPU with 15 SM activated. While the GTX 1660 Ti is codenamed TU116-400-A1 and has 24 SMs.

GTX 1070 has a core speed of 1506 MHz slightly greater than the 1660 Ti which has 1500 MHz. These figures can be boosted to 1770 MHz ad 1683 MHz respectively. Although base speed of the 1070 is greater than the 1660 Ti, the 1600 Ti beats the competition with its boost clock speed.

Overclock potential of the GTX 1070 is good compared to 1660 Ti and both have great driver support.

Memory speed for the 1070 is at 2002 MHz while 1660 Ti has 1500 MHz. The GTX 1070 surpasses the 1660 Ti given that the 1070 has 8gb memory while the later has 6GB.

Memory bus for the 1070 has 256bit and 192bit on the 1660 Ti. Memory type for the 1070 is the GDDR5 while the 1660 Ti has the newer GDDR6. The 1070 has lower bandwidth at 256.3GB/sec compared to the 288GB/sec of the 1660 Ti.

Shader processing units for 1070 is greater than the 1660 Ti at 1920 and 1536 respectively. Texture Mapping units in 1070 surpasses 1660 Ti at 120 compare with the 96 of 1660 Ti. Texture rate on the 1070 is greater than on 1660 Ti at 180.7 GTexel/s compared to the 144 GTexel/s    of the 1660 Ti.

GTX 1070 has greater Render output units and pixel rate at 64 and 96.4 GPixel/s compared to the 1660 Ti that has only 48 and 72 GPixel/s.

Power Consumption and System Suggestion

Let us proceed with the power consumption on the GTX 1070 vs GTX 1660 Ti comparison review. GTX 1070 has a rated board TDP of 150W while the GTX 1660 Ti has a rated board TDP of 120W. They both requires a 500W and 450W power supply respectively. The two GPUs also need one available connector for power.

GeForce GTX 1070 is best suited for resolution of up to 2560×1600 while the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti is up to 2560×1440.

It I recommended for the 1070 to have a high end processor with at least 16gb of RAM for optimum performance while the 1660 Ti is ok with a mid-range processor and at least 16gb RAM to run optimally.

Game Performance

We tested both graphic cards on few games and found out that the 1070 have better FPS on games like CSGO, League of Legends and Overwatch compare to the 1660 Ti. While on the other hand The 1660 Ti has better game FPS than the 1070 on games like PUBG and Minecraft.

Both can handle mostly popular AAA games with fair games aside what I mentioned above. Both the GTX 1070 and GTX 1660 Ti ranked 27th and 30th on Userbenchmark list of graphic cards.

I personally choose the GTX 1070 over the GTX 1660 Ti because it is the more popular and perform better than the competition in terms of game FPS. Even though it is a bit older but still a great graphics card.

That is it for my GTX 1070 vs GTX 1660 Ti comparison review, see ya!
