Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 Ti is dubbed as the an “enthusiast graphic card”. It belongs to the top 100 graphic cards. This GPU is based on the Pascal Architecture and it was hyped as the “ultimate GEforce”. Released in the 1st quarter of 2017, it is was the latest flagship 4k VR ready GPU that year. It supersedes the gtx 1080 graphic card was a great performance card.
While the Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 is a high-end graphics card that is based on Turing Architecture. Released in the 3rd quarter of 2018, it boasts a new AI and ray tracing technology that could result in good performance.
GTX 1080 Ti is codenamed P102-300-A1 which has 3584 Shader processing unit. While RTX 2080 is codenamed GT104, it offers a little low shader processing unit at 2844.
Core speed on GTX 1080 Ti is lower than RTX 2080, it only has 1480 MHz while the 2080 has 1515 MHz. Both have boost clock, but still GTX 1080 Ti comes short at only 1582 MHz compared to the 1800 MHz of the RTX 2080.
The 1080 Ti has no Overclock Potential while the 2080 has a fair potential.
The GTX 1080 Ti has lower mem ory speed at 1376 MHz compared to the 1750 MHz of the 2080. The GTX 1080 Ti has high Memory bus though at 352-bit compared to the 256-bit of 2080 GPU.
Memory type for the 1080 Ti is the older GDDR5X while the 2080 has the newer GDDR6 memory type. The 1080 Ti has a slight advantage in terms of memory bandwidth compared to 2080.

The GTX 1080 Ti has a max power of 220 Watts slightly bigger wattage than that of 2080 which is only at 215 watts. Both cards require 2 power connectors a 6-pin and 8-pin connectors.
The GTX 1080 Ti performs well in the 12 most popular games. It has a great FPS getting 247 fps on CSGO at 1080p with the maximum detail setting. Performed well with Minecraft registering 269 FPS with same 1080p maximum setting. It has received positive feedback from different users. It ranked number 7 on the list of graphic cards as reflected in UserBenchmark website.
The RTX 2080 is faster that GTX 1080 performance wise. It is very suitable for 4k gaming. Although in the FPS games on some games it falls short on that of the 1080 Ti. Like for example the 2080 just have an average FPS of 233 on CSGO and 241 on Minecraft, shorter numbers compared to 1080 Ti.
But it has an edge FPS average number wise on many games like Overwatch, DOTA2, League of Legends, PUBG and others. It also ranks 10 on the graphic cards list on UserBenchmark. This rank takes consideration all aspect other that just GPU performance.
GTX 1080 Ti is best suited for resolution of 3840×2160, in this category they are the same with 2080. Both also needs to have a high-end processor and at least 16gb of RAM for optimal performance.
I personally like RTX 2080 cause performance it is better than the 1080 Ti by just a little bit. I go for the 2080 because it is newer, and it has great average FPS on more games than the 1080 Ti.
Buying and choosing from each other is a personal choice, but if you ask me, I’d go with RTX 2080.
